This one fascinates me, because at first I was like "oh, well she was just as nutty as Junko to have gone alone with this mess" but now . . . I'm not so sure. The main reason is the existence of Dangan Ronpa IF (which boy would I want to read THAT), which suggests that had Naegi gotten his memories back early then not only would NONE of the murders happen, but Mukuro would be a major player is rescuing everyone. So if that's the case, then was she as dedicated to SHSL Despair as Junko was, or was she thrown into despair like the cast of SDR2?

MASSSSSSSSSSIVE SPOILERS For IF, the reason she saved everyone is she narrowly avoided her planned death (thanks to Naegi), and that was what led to her going against Despair and Junko, also the fact that she definitely had a thing for Naegi.
I imagine she was "dedicated" for the most part, not thrown in, but after seeing what Junko would do, well she's a soldier. The best. No scars whatsoever. She clearly cares about self-preservation a lot.

Apparently it's bonus content that comes with SDR2 - you get it after beating the game (I think) so hopefully it'll be included with the localization of SDR2, and hopefully I'll have a Vita by then and will be able to actually play both games instead of just scavenging details from LPs. So there's that I'm also looking at my original post and it now occurs to me that I don't think I quite phrased the topic that well. I will agree that Mukuro was on board for the whole plan and wasn't dragged into it kicking and screaming. What I'm NOT as convinced on, however, is that she did it "for the sake of despair" (borrowing a term I picked up from my investigation into the second game). The problem is that, as a character, we haven't seen a lot of her true colors for better or for worse, and DR: IF seems to be the "best" source of information for her character, and yet it doesn't seem readily available for English consumption (at the very least not legally). Part of the reason I raised the question in the first place is that I'm a fanfic writer and I've got an idea for something that would involve her in varying degrees of importance. That being said, her characterization is so elusive that I'm trying to get a better read on her before I run too far in the wrong direction (which I probably also should have mentioned either in the original post for this thread or in my "Hi I'm new here!" post on the board, but alas hindsight is 20/20). It boils down to a few things; the aforementioned DR:IF is technically an AU relying on something that doesn't happen in canon and is not readily available in the only language I'm able to speak and read fluently, all of Naegi's interactions with Mukuro in the game are fake (as she's pretending to be Junko, although I've gathered she had a few slip ups hinting at her merc past), and what we're presented with as "the truth" came from Junko, who's a questionable source of information considering her brain is, as Bruce Banner would say, "a bag ful of cats". (To clarify, I don't think Junko was "lying" in the sense that she actively told Naegi and the others something she did not believe for example, she was telling the truth when she told them what she did to their memories - there's evidence to back up her claim and nothing discrediting it, nor a reason for her to lie during what she assumed was a victory speech. I do, however, believe she's insane and her perception of things probably isn't terribly accurate so for less concrete things, like the feelings and motives of another person, she may not have as good of a grasp on them.) I hope I made more sense this time around and I hope activity here picks up soon
